July Is Great Fishing

and....July Is "America's Vacation Month"

July is the peak of Alaska's Tourist season.
Similar to mid-June to mid-August,
July is an inviting time to visit our great state, Alaska.

However, unlike May ~ June  & August ~ September,
Mid to late July in our area, has two distinguishing features.

Sockeye ~ Red Salmon  & Lots of People

If You Are Seeking A "Less Peopled" Time
Don't Choose July

How's The Weather ?
"Still Enjoying The Long Days"
July is also characterized by long days  & usually some of our
warmest  temperatures, but more rain than June . By the end of the month,
although the sun is shining at 10:00 PM, the days are getting "shorter."

How About The Fishin'

King Salmon

July Produces The 2nd Run Of Kenai River Kings

The Kenai River is now running "full tilt" !
It's "full of water" and siltier than earlier or later in the season.

There are more kings in the Kenai River this month.
However, that does not make them easier to catch in July.
More water, siltier water, and more hooks tend to
work together to even-out your odds.

Although there are more anglers in July,
like May & June, July "on The Kenai" is part of
The World's Greatest King Salmon Fishery

The Kasilof River is also producing nice Kings.
Drift boating, it's a quiet & relaxing fishery and thoroughly
enjoyed by many of our guests.

Maybe A Million Fish !
Sockeye or Red Salmon

Sockeye or red salmon fishing is generally available mid July into August.
Bring your favorite spinning rod or ~ 8 weight fly rod.

A Million Fish  ~ Just May Be !

Unlike "king" fishing, red salmon fishing
does require a little "technique" !

July "King Salmon" Advice
You Can Fish Kings In May and June

If I were "targeting" king salmon and chose to come in July,
I'd pick the first two weeks of July prior to the expected arrival
of the sockeye run. The king fishing is just as good as later in the month
but there will be considerably fewer fishermen.
